I recently downloaded an Office 2000 Update from office update at Microsoft. While installing, I was prompted to insert my Office 2000 CD, which I did. This did not help, the installer complaining that it could not find a valid copy of data1.msi.

I did a file search and found the file on the CD. It was also on my C drive (I had copied the entire Office 2000 CD there for just such problems), but the installer griped that it was not valid.

So I went next door and borrowed a friend's Office 2000 CD to get past the problem.

That didn't work either. The upgrade, which promised to give me the "latest, most secure" versions of Word, Excel, etc. failed.

Any idea what the problem is, or what I should do (don't say buy a newer version of Office --- 2K does everything I need, and I already bought it.
