I have a user that is using windows 2000 pro and had office xp on his machine. This problem started happening recently that when he goes to file, open, and licks on the arrow to display the directories the application hangs for about 10 seconds. I have upgraded him to office 2003 and it makes it a little better but the hang is still there. It only happens the first time he does this, and afterwordsthe directories are shown immediately. Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks

Are the displayed directories on the hard drive? Or are they on the network? If they're on the network, I'd expect some delay. If they're on the hard drive, have you checked the fragmentation?

Most of the ones he's trying to access are local drive, but some may be on the network. I checked back with him and the delay is more like 30 seconds. I'll check the fragmentation in a few and let yo know.

After looking myself, most of the drives are on the network. I also noticed to slow down when simple clicking on my computer, for it to show anything up.
