I had it plugged into my laptop when I was blowing it off and putting a copy of XP Pro on it. When it said to delete the partition, I clicked on the USB drive on accident. Now plugging it into Win 7 computer, it wants to format it. Is there any way to get my files? I have one word document in particular that has been my life's work. I had not backed it up in over 2 months.

That should be a pop-up immediately after you plug it in.

Close that pop-up, then what happens when you do the following:

    Click Start.

    Click Computer.

    Double-click your flash drive.

You should be able to see the contents of your flash drive if they're still there.

Normally the format option isn't required. I have an external harddrive that both my machines (Vista and Win7) ask me to format when I plug them in.

If the contents of the drive were deleted, you can try running Recuva on it.

Sounds like you're clicking on the wrong drive.

Are you sure that's the correct one?

Yes. I actually went into computer management and it said it was "raw data" and I had to set it up. I did that so I could run some tools like PC File Inspector, RecoverMyFiles, and a few others. It found a few things but not my main .docx file that I needed. This makes me so sick that I am really nauseated. I had written stuff like a journal for my daughter and the last time I had saved it in backup was May 15th.

Try running Recuva on the drive as well.

I did that one just now. It got my xlsx files but it didn't get my 240 page docx file. Thank you though. That was another step forward.

Try Googling some other free recovery programs, you might have better luck with them.
