Please help me figure out what's wrong with my computer! I don't know much about computers at all. I know a few things in DOS....a few commands and what not...but not enough to get me anywhere. About 3 or 4 weeks ago, I am pretty sure my computer was hacked at a game site. Shortly afterwards I downloaded a spyware and virus program to check for problems. It found like 300 critical errors....and it said it fixed them.....but I don't think it did because I never clicked anything other than "scan". It never asked me if I wanted to delete the files or errors....so I don't think it did. Then last night, I started getting wierd pop-ups that won't stop. It keeps telling me my system is in critical danger. I've ran the spyware program again and it keeps showing two files, something called trojan something or another, and it's lodged itself in pretty good. I don't know how to get rid of it, like REALLY get rid of it. When you send it to the recycle bin, I know that it actually doesn't delete it, it's still all over the computer. I want it gone, really gone for good. Could somebody tell me how to completely remove files? Or what I can do to get rid of these pop-ups, and the icons in my system tray.....they won't go away. Thanks

    Grant

PS if anybody knows of any good IP addy tracking places, let me know because I ran netstat in command prompt and got a list of foreign IP's That I'd like to check out. Thanks again.

Optimus: It sounds like you downloaded a bogus Spyware removal program. (Lots of that going around.)
Now download, install, update and run Spybot Search and Destroy from here:
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

Also donwnload, install, update and run Adaware 2007 from here:
    http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

    Remove everything these programs find.

This should rid you of your popups from whatever it is that you downloaded originally.
If you had mentioned the name of that program I could tell you for sure if it is junk.
Anyway, these two programs will keep you free from most crap.
Run them both weekly if you're going to wander all over the net looking for proplems, because you sure as heck will fnd them.

There seems to be 2 Spyware Terminator programs out there. one, by Crawler, is OK. I can't find anything on the other.
Anyway, uninstall it and depend on Spybot S&D and Adaware 2007.
    Good Luck.
