Thanks so much for directing me to SpyBot and HiJack This. I had a surprisingly "clean" system except for that obvious autodialler (and lots of Commision Junction stuff...lol!).

However, I can't prove it but I suspect that the strange EMail I got might have been the culprit. The coincidences are too high for that day's events.

How can a person protect themselves better from this? I don't really know for sure if it was the EMail that brought it in, but since I don't surf nakey-land it's all I could think of for a culprit.

I'm on a 56k dialup (so there's that long-distance dialer danger) but I spoke with the phone company and now have an account online where I can make a daily check of the calls. I don't have any family members that surf or even USE the computer. Baby is a toddler, wife doesn't like the computer.

What can a guy do to protect?

-Thanks for all your previous help too - what a great bunch!

-D
