i have an old compaq presario, running 95, it didn't come with the 95 install disk, and it won't work, it lets me boot to the log on screen, but then all i get is just the desktop, all i can do is run programs from the RUN command, also now the battery is dead and the connector for the power cable broke off so i can't use the pc, what should i do?

it's realy tempting to tell you to put it in the bin...

first you need to fix that power connector.

when you have done this and you boot up again, do run and type explorer (that's the windows user interface) and see what happens

For the money you'd spend to fix it, you could have another Compaq laptop running Windows 95 like the one you have.

Compaq LTE 5100 Pentium Laptop Windows 95 Good!!

Has a blazingly fast 90MHz Pentium processor with a whopping 8MB of RAM. About $40 with shipping, a pretty nice example, and LTE's were Compaq's high-end laptops.

There are nice Windows 95 laptops all over eBay, just do a search for "Windows 95 laptop".

You use an adapter. Either to a 3.5" IDE connector or USB.
