I have an old hard drive that has win xp on it is there a way to put that in my new cpu and erase everything off of it and use it as extra storage?

Sure. If you have one hard disk, you'd jumper it for Cable Select, and connect it to the open connector on the cable. Connect the power to it and boot the machine. You can then use Disk Management to remove everything and create a partition and format the drive.

If there is physically space in your case, yes. Look at the existing hd and see if it is jumpered as cable select. If it is, jumper yours as cable select also, connect it to the center connector on the same cable and re-boot. Rightclick on my computer>click on manage>click on the + sign at storage. go to disk management. find the correct drive. right click on that drive>format
