Hello, here is my problem. I just bought a 32MB ATI All-in-wonder 128 (rage) vid card, a new PNY 128MB memory stick, and a 16x DVD-Rom drive and installed it in my compaq that has a AMD K6. Well, I got everything installed OK and everything worked alright. I was able to play Star Wars Force Commander with no problems. A day or two later it would go to the loading screen then crash just as it was done loading and getting ready to go to the actual game, when the screen goes black and I hit CTL-ALT-DEL it resarts my computer. Then I tried Delta Force 2 and it wont even load!! I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything at once and all together and the same problems occurred. I even reinstalled directx 7 & 8 to no avail. All my other games work with no problem (and some of them have higher requirements? Please Help!!!!:confused:OS WIN 98SE

Hiya and Welcome

Well, Star Wars Force Commander's requirements are what you have. Just looked at your video card and it all agrees. There is a patch http://support.lucasarts.com/patches/commander.htm but its for internet play, and I guess that you're not even getting near this. It also requires DirectX 7, but you have this.

As for Delta Force 2, again, its okay and there is a patch
http://www.3dupdates.com/patches/deltaforce2.html
but that won't cause the problems.

You could try lowering your graphics acceleration.

Control Panel | System | Performance | Graphics and reducing hardware acceleration to None for a test. If no error, try bumping it up a notch at a time.

Right click on My Computer, then click properties | performance | Graphics to test

Ok, I tried lowering the graphis acceleration and it works when have it set to the lowest and the next to lowest but not any higher. So, the game runs laggy but it works. What is the cause of this and can it be fixed? I tried downloading the newer patch but it didn't help. Thanks for your help:)

Hiya

It could be down to your video card. Which one do you have? Go to Control Panel | System . Click om Device Manager, then look for Video. You may need to expand it to see the name.

Hiya

I keep getting conflicting replies about this card when browsing through the newsgroups. Some say its not compatible with Windows 98, of which I assumed you were using, some say its ok. Then, as I was looking at DVD problems as well, many mention to try disabling usb support in BIOS.

Also, have you got the latest drivers? We could try that first. Again, assuming Win98

http://support.ati.com/products/pc/...s+98&cboProducts=ALL+IN+WONDER128&cmdNext=GO!

The thing is, if most of your games play well with the acceleration up, and these 2 you have to drop, Its a bit hard to pinpoint

If the DVD-rom has a setting for DMA in the Properties>Settings page in the Device Manager, try unchecking it.
