You appear to have a Dell XPS 15 L502X laptop.

What's the "service tag" number and/or "express service code" number on it?

-------------------------------------------------------

For just recently formatting the hard drive and reinstalling Windows 7 in that Dell, it has a LOT of used space.

The hard drive also appears to be split in 2 partitions.

Did you use a Dell reinstallation disk because if you did it should not be asking for a key?

You didn't answer Allan's question:

... and where did you get the key from ?
I don't know why you are being prompted for a key, but since you are prompted you should be giving the Product Key from the COA sticker on the computer.

I would clear out the disk and try it again, but you are correct, it shouldn't ask for a key.

According to the on-line manual for that laptop, it does not come with a factory restore disc kit.

It has a built-in factory restore partition and has Dell software so you can create a factory restore disc kit for it.

The reasons for having a factory restore disc kit is in case the built-in factory restore partition gets damaged or if the hard drive fails and needs to be replaced.

Is there anything related that you haven't told us, such as you replaced the motherboard or some other reason that your procedure (which seems to be 100% correct and you said you've done it before) is not working now?
