Please provide your Vaio model #.

Boot to the W7 repair environment.

You may receive a msg that a version of W7 can not be found. If so, report the exact message.

If you reach the recovery options. left click the command prompt.
Type: c:
Press enter
type: chkdsk /r
Press enter

Report any error messages. When chkdsk /r has finished, there will be a report. Please report the results / report message.

Then, reboot & try to access Windows.

Please report the results.

When did the computer last work well? What changed?

For how long have you owned this computer?

This is why we need your model #.

You may need to create a W7 repair disk.

The presence of the HDD in the BIOS will not tell us if W7 is installed.

Also, if the HDD is present, do we know if it is enabled?

I had the same problem and found the hdd cable was loose.
Reattach the data and power cables and go into BIOS and see if hdd is detected.

Welcome to TSG hulk1954!

Yes I agree. Take the laptop and flip it over. On the bottom right side you'll see a lid with 2 screws. Undo the screws and remove the lid. Remove the hard drive and then reattach the drive. ("Make sure it is secure") Put the lid back on and tighten the screws. Now boot the system. You should be up and going. If not, post back either way.
