    I had XP installed by some dodgy sub tech monkey last year ... felt sure sommit was up!

    No install cds.

    any hope?

    Unfortunately, you need to get a legal copy of XP. Anything that is cleaned up with the inability to get service packs is just a waste of everyone's time, as you'll be infected again immediately.

    Yes, it is, but it happens. I'll close the thread now. If you can, and that place is still in business, you might report them to MS and the BBB in your area. No one should be scammed like that.
