Is there a way to get Outlook back to square one ( the default view settings) for everything? This is using an exchange server so a reload would do no good as all the settings are remembered in the user's profile.

Go into control panel and open the Mail icon. You can delete the profile that is listed there, then create a new one (better yet, create the new profile first, then go back and delete the old one after testing the new one.)

I understand that, but there is a "local" profile as well, which tells Outlook what exchange server you are connecting to, and where to deliver the email (leave it on the exchange server (default) or download it to the local machine (in the form of a PST file)).

If you create a new profile on the local machine that has the same settings as the current local profile, then that will reset the default view settings.
