Outlook 2007 Can't Access POP 3 Account

When I press Send/Receive a pop up box asks me to "Enter Network Password". I enter my BT Yahoo User Name and Password and I get the error message: cannot log on to server Incorrect user name or password. It is not incorrect but what Outlook is sending must be incorrect. I have tried changing password, deleting the account and adding it again but nothing works. I have tried repairing Outlook - no good. I have tried starting Outlook in Safe Mode - no good. I have tried to set up a new profile (pst) but I am prevented because the user name and password entered as part of the process is rejected. I have tried to remove, as Microsoft suggest, the Protected Storage System Provider entry in the Registry but it won't allow me to. I have checked for malware and viruses. After two days I am at my wits end. Help Please!

have you checked the security type - if that is setup incorrectly that will return that error

also Yahoo has a plus account and not sure if you can use pop without paying anyway - i think you need a plus account

what is the account

dont post your email, but what is the last part after the @

name@ ???

As suspected - this is for outlook express - but the settings apply to outlook
BUT also needs to be a plus account

the security type
from the setup details link - this section - which is often not setup correctly and produces the errors you are getting
Do not check the Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) checkbox.

This server requires a secure connection (SSL) checkbox.
Alternatively, you can enable SSL/TLS and type 587.
It is necessary to enable SSL or TLS for Outgoing SMTP server.
