I have two new Vista computers with MS Office Professional.

I imported really large backup.pst files into Outlook on each computer.

    One computer, Outlook runs fine.

On the other computer, Outlook is running very slowly, using 50% of my E6600 core-2-duo processor, and banging the HDD very hard.

    Any help?

On one forum. A fellow said to un-install Office, remove every instance of Office 12 in the Registry, and start over. I am not up on playing with the Registry.

have you got desktop search enabled, if so disable it as that definitely slowed my outlook 2007 down with XPSp2

I don't know about vista but I believe desktop search comes as standard with vista

I was getting a warning message everytime I started outlook that the pst file didn't close properly but since uninstalling desktop search & setting gpedit to prevent it being reinstalled or prompted to install everything works properly & fast

Thanks, I got it working. Some folks thought that it was just taking a long time to index and compact my voluminous imported backup.pst. So, I just let it run with all mail polling turned off. Well, it was just forever. So I removed everything and re-imported my Phone Books, and everything is now O.K., except of course, all the convenient buttons have been hidden, like Advanced Search, which i use a great deal with search words built into a category. And now, where is that darned icon that lets me bring up all of my phone books and allows me to pick one and just select the email recipient and go on????

Anyway, it is so way better than TBird, which just made me scream.

    Thanks again.
