Just got msn as my internet provider. how do I set outlook express for my email?
What would be the incoming mail setting and the outgoing mail setting?
call tech support through msn and they gave me a setting to put in and it didn't work. do you have to use their own email program on their web site to send and receive mail just like aol? can't get outlook to dial up msn on its own. thanks

    Hi rp330

Yes Outlook Express is compatible with MSN.

What incoming/outgoing (POP3, SMTP) settings did they give you?

Is your Firewall allowing Outlook Express access to the internet?

    Let us know.

    no don't have firewall enabled.
must have threw away paper that had what they told me to write in the incoming box. but it went something like this.
    http:\\mail.msn.com\oe\hotmail\data
don't quote me on this it was long and it didn't work. got mad a little. never saw anything like that before. had the same for outgoing.talked to two tech.people and they gave me the same thing.called outlook express and they never heard of anything like that and they were supposed to get back with me on it and so far nothing from them. thank you, ron

    rp330,

I believe the MSN server names are as follows:

    Incoming (POP3): pop3.email.msn.com
    Outgoing (SMTP): smtp.email.msn.com

    tried both suggestions. pop3 & smtp.email.msn.com.
even checked boxes for using secure password authentication.
in advanced checked boxes for secure incoming and outgoing ssl.
still did not work. came up with error-0x800ccc0e failed to connect???
don't know what else to do? ron

Try setting up a New account using HTTP
    After selecting Add > Mail
    On the third window,
Click on the drop down arrow for My Incoming Mail Server is a HTTP server.

In the Incoming Mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) Server:
    Paste or key in:

    Code:
    http://supportservices.msn.com/us/oeconfig/
    Let us know what happens.

this paste did not work. kept getting error could not connect.
also said it did not seem like a valid address do you want to use this address.
"but" I got it working through hotmail. when i clicked on the http box another box came and said my http server is hotmail or other, I clicked on hotmail and my account came through in outlook. works good. only thing, when I send email it disappears, don't show up in the sent box of hotmail. when I go to the web site email program it is in the sent box there. ???I guess hotmail is a different program but it has my same email address as the web site does.
any ideas why it won't incorperate with my regular account? this works great,I can still send and receive through outlook(hotmail) account. Thanks, Ron

    That is good news :)

Hotmail is just a mirror of the server, but if you have a Sent folder in your Hotmail account, it should be mirroring what is on their server.

Did you click Synchronize in Outlook Express for your Hotmail account?

I have never had an MSN account although I know they share the passport etc, it would seem that they would have a different interface.

If you logon to your MSN email account on the web, does it look different than Hotmail's webbased page?
MSN may have more information in the Help section for account configurations.

    Let us know.

No,I didn't click on syncronize in outlook express. but I will try that.
yes, msn web site email look a lot different that hotmail based account.
I was wondering if there is a limit on inbox email in hotmail since I have an account with msn or would it be unlimited ?? got to look that up. I know that free hotmail has a limit. thank you. Ron
