I have set up a message rule for spam which is supposed to direct any spam into my 'Deleted' file but it doesn't seem to work. My ISP filters spam and marks emails as [spam++++++]. Surely this should work?

You can't set up a single message rule for any and all spam.

We can't visualize what you are talking about without some details.
What do you have set for your 1) Condition
What do you have set for your 2) Actions
How does your ISP mark emails as spam? Where is the "mark" located on the email?

OK. The conditions of the Rule. Apply this rule after the message arrives where the subject line contains "[Spam+++" copy it to the "Deleted Items" folder.

Set to "Empty messages from Deleted Items folder on exit".

ISP presumably filters Spam and marks each email in the subject line with "[Spam+++".

I have not looked at the other resources quoted above yet but will now do so.

I don't believe you mean copy. That means you would have 2 emails, one in your inbox and one in the Deleted Items Folder. I think you want move.

Here you go...
1) Conditions: Where the Subject line contains specific words.
Word in subject line: [Spam+++

2) Actions: Move it to the specified folder.
Folder to be moved to: Deleted Items

3) Actions: Stop processing more rules.
Done. Click your way out.

Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the Subject line contains '[Spam+++'
Move it to the Deleted Items folder
and Stop processing more rules
Works perfect for me.

You are absolutely right. I must have looked at that 6-7 times and just did not see it. Many thanks.
