you could try and disable the preveiw pane in outlook. select the view menu from the top and go to "layout", on the next screen remove the check from "show preveiw pane" and see if you can delete. if that doesn't work you can do a search on your computer for the file "inbox.dbx". make sure you are closed out of outlook and delete the inbox.dbx file. if you have more than one identity set up then be careful and make sure you delete the correct one. if you have any messages in your inbox that you need to save then make sure to put them in another folder before you delete the inbox.dbx file.

There may be a corruption in some e-mails that’s disallowing this action. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\You’re Account\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{DFF16927-88E6-4EAA-A097-460B7E65289B}\Microsoft\Outlook Express “The number sequence will very after Identities” Make sure outlook Express is closed. Now depending on whether the mails are in deleted items or the inbox, delete the .dbx file that contains them. Now reopen Outlook Express. The .dbx file will be recreated fresh and the mails that were there are now gone.
