I'm currently using Outlooks Express (w/Hotmail) on WinXP. I can receive messages fine, but suddenly most of my sent email or replys are being returned to me with the following basic error message:
> This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.
> Delivery to the following recipients failed.

Any help much appreciated.

what is the full messagew with the reasons for non delivery.

Does it say something about fatal errors or unable to route or what

if you are sending via hotmail numerous ISP's or domains block all hotmail messages because 90% are spam

Yeah, I don't know if you can do it with a Hotmail account running on Outlook Express but many ISPs today insist that all outbound (SMTP) mail route through their own SMTP server.

I have 4 or 5 people that have hotmail addresses and I quite frequently get all them back with the same kind of explanation. I don't know if they get sent later are they are totally bounced back.

Sorry, this happened suddenly so I don't think it is the ISP (AOL) or a blocked situation. I email these people regularly.

the full error message (at least all that was there) is:
Reporting-MTA: dns;hotmail.com
Received-From-MTA: dns;mail.hotmail.com
Arrival-Date: Thu, 24 Jul 2003 14:48:17 -0700

Final-Recipient: rfc822;[email protected]
Action: failed
Status: 5.0.0

from the error message it looks like hotmail can't determine the final IP address of the recipient.

There could be many reasons for this

what I would try is to email via hotmail webpage & see if that works. if it does it means something in your OE setup is causing a problem, but what it is I don't know
Possibly if all the addresses are in your address bok then that might have corrupted and added extra characters. That would definitely confuse the hotmail servers.
