My co-worker's Outlook Express suddenly "lost" thousands of e-mails. There is now a gap of emails from 3/29/05 to 8/29/08. He now has a total of 1417 emails showing, whereas before he had apprx. 11,000. Cananyone explain how this happened and if there is anyway to retrieve the "lost" emails?

Yes. Possibly what is explained here in this article. Read it
but don't compact just yet. If you have already compacted the
emails, then you probably can't recover anything. But it is
    worth a shot.

    To recover emails DBXtract Macallan:

    old freeware DBXtract

Were those 11,000 emails stored in separate custom folders?
If they were all in one folder, probably too many. Check the size
of the .dbx files - I keep mine at or below 25 MB others go up to
100MB without problems. Anything more and it could easily
    cause problems.
