I just uninstalled Internet Explorer 6 because it was making my Outlook Express weird. When my computer reverted back to version 5.0 I lost Outlook Express. It keeps telling me that msoe.dll file is unavailable and giving me error message
0X80040154, 2.

I checked my program files and msoe.dll file IS there. I've tried re-installing 6.0 but Outlook Express still won't open.

Suggestions, help, links?

TIA,
jeant

Hi and welcome. Can you post the EXACT error message?

"Outlook Express could not be started. The application was unable to open the Outlook Express message store. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is full. Contact Microsoft support for further assistance. (0x80040154, 2)"

I am neither out of memory, nor is my disk full.

Here is another error message I get when I click "OK" on the one above.

"Outlook Express could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be initialized. Outlook Express may not be installed correctly."

Yes, but I thought you said you uninstalled and went back to 5????? You probably have a mix/match file problem.

I did uninstall and went back to 5, but when that didn't help I went back to 6. Even if I still had 5, there's not a fix listed for Windows 2000.

I tried the manual uninstall -- when I try and reinstall (following directions from website) I get an error message saying "The directory name is invalid (error#267).
Is there any other way to install OE 5.0?

Where are you getting version 5 from? A cd? or download?

Can you try to reinstall 6 instead?
