I'm just snakebit today. My wife's machine crashed and I reloaded everything. In setting up her Outlook again and attempting to open her PST file, it is asking for a password. To be clear, it isn't asking for a password to connect to the mail server; it is asking for a password just to view the PST file.

She has never given the PST file a password.

I don't use or like Outlook but she does and this problem has caught me by surprise.

I don't know how the password was created. Did you try your system password or the ISP password? If all fails, you might try this program. I haven't used it, but you can try.

Thanks but my wife's e-mail password is only four characters and the demo version of your link says the password is too long for just the demo AND she never used a password on her PST file so this is just a bogus message for both the fact the password would not be long IF she had one and secondly, she never had one.

I think some corruption happened to her PST file.
