I have just moved to China, where I am working, and I have connected to the internet via my phone line. My old internet account was a UK company, and my pop mail worked fine there. My Outlook is downloading all the pop mail from Yahoo, but it cannot send it. I get error messages talking about SMTP servers, etc. I would greatly appreciate any advice, as the internet is v.slow here, and takes a long time!

Hi, Peter.

A common mistake people make is putting, for instance and in your case, yahoo as the outgoing mail server. That won't work.

You have an ISP, right? Use their outgoing mail server instead of yahoo. Many ISPs won't allow you to send from another server.

I'm not too sure what you mean. I take it you mean I am trying to send email through yahoo. I assume that is what I'm (this computer) is trying to do.
I don't think I have an ISP. I just dial 169, and have a password and user name. But I don't think there is any more than that.
I inherited this email from the person who worked here before me. I went to the website - I can read chinese, but it's a headache. Anyway, it looks like just the webpage of a Beijing telecoms company. I tried to log in using the same username & pass, but it didn't let me. Is it possible I don't have an ISP?

Not unless you're under some special connection, which means you probably cannot setup Yahoo through Outlook anyway.
