My computer's been shutting down on me. Started a month ago when I was rendering a video... computer fans keep running but screen goes black, so i reboot. So i thought I'd upgrade the video card to an XFX 1G radeon 6870 256 bit. Other stats:
AMD Athlon AM2 Phenom II X4 640 - stock fan
4Gb Corsair RAM
Win 7 Pro 32bit
550W power supply
2 monitors 19" 1440x900 32bit color

So the video card came with Dirt 3, and the computer is still shutting down when I play the game.
I'm wondering if I need more cooling? Any ideas to troubleshoot to see what is failing?
Haven't done much gaming for years... do i need to go to a single monitor mode to run the game?

You need to find out if your overheating, try some software called cpuid hardware monitor.

Also, check the box from your video card, your power supply might not be strong enough for that system, a 550watt is sort of low.
