Before I attempt a clean install of the system (probably over my head), I would like to post a Hijack of my system to see if it is somehow salvageable. There are programs on this computer that have never been used as well as a lot of junk that was added by Kazaa and BearShear. We actually only use about a third of the stuff that on here. Any thoughts/help would be appreciated. Thanks

Any thoughts on cleaning up this system. Is there any program that anyone has used to clean up a sytem that is incredibly slow. What are the first steps to take to try to speed up a computer. Are there too many programs loading at startup? Thanks for looking.

Any thoughts on an easy relatively painless way to to a complete clean install of my Windows xp and my applications. I would like to wipe the HD clean to and then install windows xp and the applications. I would either use backup disks created the back from Microsoft One application or I could pick an external HD (Black Metal Gear Box USB 2.0+1394 Firewire External Hard Drive+Western Digital 250GB 8MB 7200RP) if this would make the install easier. I would be using the backup for data files any other settings that might be needed from the original install. Any suggestions?

off the top of my head reinstalling windows xp sounds kinda drastic if the computer seems slow to you. i would go to the control panel and look in your add/remove programs and see whats in there that you do use at all and remove them first. that should make your computer a little faster i would think because your removing junk you dont need anymore. then i would use the disk cleanup and defrag and see if that helps. im sure someone will have other suggestions you can try before the step of reinstalling. the other thing is, is that your adobe reader is out of date the current version is 8. and your java needs updated . the current version is java runtime environment 5.0 update 11. you can also clear out your temporary internet files or change how much space to use for them. hope this helps.

I honestly think you are better off starting off with a clean computer. You have way too much junk on it. You of course can try uninstalling EVERYTHING you don't need, particularly all the toolbars and junk utilities. Re-installing an operating system can be fairly easy with step by step directions being provided for you as you go. Just make sure you have the product key!

You can definitely go to MSConfig and figure out what junk is being started up. Disable everything and see if it helps when you reboot. Don't forget to remove any malware you have. Plenty of free tools to get rid of it.

Honestly though, there is nothing better than a fresh install. :)

if you decide to go the route of a fresh reinstall when you are all done check your add/remove programs to make sure that whats in there is stuff that you really want or need. if not remove it now before things pile up and get slow again. i didnt want to recommend a reinstall as its still drastic to me and time consuming but sometimes thats the only way to have a peaceful computer that works the way it should. :)

What do you think of MS File & Settingss Transfer (F.A.S.T. for Short)? Is there something better prior to the clean?
