the intelligent auto setting on my Panasonic DMC-TZ4 camera doesn't work. I get a message to turn off and on the camera but that doesn't help. All the other settings to take photos or video work. I tried the intelligent auto setting many times over a several week period without success and then it worked briefly again yesterday, then I heard a big pop sound and it stopped working again. All other settings are fine. I was thinking of taking the camera to a local repair person, but wanted some sense first of what the problem might be and whether it was repairable.

Anytime a camera snaps, crackles, or "pops!" it sounds likes it needs repair.
Can it be repaired? I'd say yes, as almost anything can be repaired. But is it worth the expense?
To get something as intricate as an electronic camera repaired I'll bet it is going to cost at least $100, and you can get better cameras than this 8M pixel for not much more than this already. Even some cell phones get that range of resolution. Wait another couple months and 13 to 41M pixel camera phones will be common.

    Get rid of this paperweight.
