I have an old emachines system that will not boot to hard drive. I took the drive out and hooked it up as a slave drive on another system. I can see folders and would like to access pictures in my documents folder. The drive had Windows XP Home edition on it and user accounts had passwords. When I try to access my pictures folder I am denied access. I was able to take ownership of the user documents folder but cannot take ownership of the My Pictures folder. Is there a way to do this? I would really like to save the pics. I have tried a repair install but I have a feeling the windows installation is corrupt or the drive has a physical issue.

Thanks,

Jay

Taking ownership of one folder is the same as the next. Is it possible the data was encrypted or the drive is physically damaged?

I am sure it is not encrypted. I suspect the drive is damaged when I try to boot it gives me a disk read error.
