pc decides to reboot

    My compaq presario 1220 running win 2000 decides to reboot by itself a number of times. any ideas

    Could be overheating, check fans for dust and make sure their spinning.

    Second guess, power supply is dying

    Check the following..

    1. CPU overheating - check your fans, make sure they are working. check cpu/system temps in BIOS. cpu temp at idle should be less than 50C.

    2. Faulty RAM - try running MemTest86

    3. Faulty power supply - are the fans clogged? have you added any new devices that may be taking up a lot of power? (video card, usually)

    4. If you have Norton Utilities, try running WinDoctor & DiskDoctor to check for file and registry errors.
