I have an older PC running Windows 2000. It only has an 8 gig hard drive with about 32% free. Recently everything has been running REAL slow. Usually when that happens I make sure I have deleted all temp files, delete temp internet files, and defrag. This time there has been no improvements. Any suggestions?

DownLoad EasyCleaner http://www.majorgeeks.com/download414.html

Use the clear files and Unnecessary files buttons – I do not recommend
using the Duplicates files button
as many dupes are there on purpose.

Not all files will delete – that is normal.

In the unnecessary button I check the top 4 entries

Empty the trash and then defrag

MFD thanks for your help!

"Clear files" worked great

"Unnecessary files" - came up with 427 entries - most end in ".tmp" - like:

C:\Documents and Steetins\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\EML18.tmp

Should I delete all of them? Also, why don't these shown up when I search for *.tmp for removal?

That got the number of files down to 37. They have ".BAK", ".OLD", and ".dmp" extensions.

I empties the recycle bin and defraged. It is better but still slower than "normal". Any other suggestions?

You can delete those also - make sure you emptied the recycle bin

We can look at you HIJack log

Get HiJack This V1.99.1 http://thespykiller.co.uk/files/hijackthis_sfx.exe - double click the DL file and click UNZIP letting it extract to its default folder C:\Program FIles\HiJackThis, run it from there, DO NOT fix anything, post the log here.

Fix this one

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - ~CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)

Get all of these and/or verify you have the current versions

SpywareBlaster 3.5 http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html
SpyBot V1.4 http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2471.html
AdAware SE 1.06 http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html
MS AntiSpy - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en (XP and W2K only)

DownLoad them (they are free), install them, check each for their
definition updates
and then run AdAware, MS AntiSpy (W2k/XP) and Spybot, fixing anything
they say.

In SpywareBlaster - Always enable all protection after updates
In SpyBot - After an update run immunize

It took a while to download, update and run all those.
The PC seems to be running faster, but even on a good day this machine seems a little slow!

I have a couple of quick questions:
When I run EasyCleaner on the “registry” button, it finds a lot of stuff. Is it ok to go ahead and delete them?

In the HighjackThis log I see a couple of lines that look like they are pointing to programs that have been deleted:

04 – HKLM\.. RunOnce: [imeshBar Uninstall] rundll32 C:pROGRA~1\UNINST~1.DLL,O –2

o16 – DPF: Yahoo! Poker – http://download.games.yahoo.com/games/clients/y/pt3_x.cab

Should I delete them?

Thanks again for working with me on this PC!
