Hello and thanks in advance for your help! Our pc is only about 2 years old and started running slow (and affecting video playback, and now most recently audio as well) several weeks ago. I've done what little I know how to do (defrag, removing unneccesary start programs, deleting files, scanned for viruses, malware, etc)... to no avail.

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.1
OS Version: Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium , Service Pack 2, 64 bit
    Processor: AMD Turion(tm) X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile ZM-80, AMD64 Family 17 Model 3 Stepping 1
    Processor Count: 2
    RAM: 3837 Mb
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 3100 Graphics, 256 Mb
    Hard Drives: C: Total - 236973 MB, Free - 152241 MB;
Motherboard: TOSHIBA, Satellite M305D, Not Applicable, 88048936W
Antivirus: Norton 360, Updated and Enabled

    Thank you!:D

Hi and welcome to TSG! :)

    • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
    • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
    • Click on Install.
    • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
    • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
    • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
    • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
    • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

The 64-bit version of Windows doesn't play well with HiJackThis and makes it difficult to decipher several of its entries, but it appears that you have a lot of multimedia programs and add-ons installed that are auto-loading and running in the background.

Multimedia programs and add-ons are notorious for doing that during the install process. Most of them can be manually started when needed.

Did you take that computer to the Geek Squad for the same issue?

No, it's never been to GeekSquad. We don't even have one here.

Maybe your computer was previously owned by someone else? Anyhow, you do have traces of a tool used exclusively by the Geek Squad, the Geek Squad MRI. Or you have acquired it some other way.

Only asking to know a little more history about the computer. :)

That's strange. We bought this laptop new at Best Buy. Is it this file: "O2 - BHO: (no name) - MRI_DISABLED - (no file)" - and should I remove it?

While waiting for a further response from Flavallee, I have been look at my Task Manager. One iexplore.exe *32, (of SIX), something called System Idle Process, and taskmger.exe seem to be using the most CPU's. Should I remove any of these? I am trying to figure out what all these processes are, but it is difficult.

    THANKS!

That isn't strange at all. Geek Squad works for Best Buy. :)

It's normal for System Idle Process to be high, the more the better. When it's at 100%, it means not much is running on that computer, or at least not hogging the CPU.

I would get rid of Norton with the Norton Removal Tool. You can replace it with the free Microsoft Security Essentials.

The iexplore.exe process is related to Internet Explorer. The more tabs you open, the more iexplore.exe processes.

It certainly won't do any harm. :)

I'm holding off doing anything until you decide if you're getting rid of or keeping Norton, and if you're installing Microsoft Security Essentials.
