It seems to sporadically work better for a little while, then bunks down again. It's never very good. Video (home and online) still jerky and home video audio will play with video virtually stuck in one spot for a while before lurching forward to another.

    Thank you!

We've been working on and off with that computer since April, so I don't know what else to do with it without having a "hands on" with it.

I'm beginning to wonder if it has a hardware issue.

I know, it is frustrating. I really appreciate all your assistance. Should I re-boot the hard drive?

    A restart never hurts anything.

    Hello, me again!

Well so I just completed backing up all my files to DVDs/CDs (using the 'Backup and Restore' function in Windows), and although we cannot find (and perhaps did not receive) any re-installation discs with this pc, it appears we can use this function to restore it:

    https://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/bulletinDetail.jsp?soid=2737864&pf=true

Except now I am getting nervous and wondering if any viruses or other yuckies we may have can survive IN our backup files and be re-installed once I download them again?

    Thanks for your advice,
    Erica

There's always a change that some "nasty" is hidden away among your personal data, but it's 99% unlikely.

They tend to hide within the Windows operating system file and registry structure.

Hello, So I am trying to recovery a Toshiba to factory settings - have already downloaded all files to DVD backup. I did this:
    https://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/bulletinDetail.jsp?soid=2737864&pf=true

But no warning screen appears - tried several times. Just powers up as normal. Although there is a loud repetitive noise that is quite annoying when I hold down the "0".

I see these instructions as well:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD7C02140000R01.htm , but no Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility screen appears.

Should I post this in a different section?
    Thank you.

Yes. If you have an issue with a different computer, you need to start a new thread for it.

I know nothing about recovering a Toshiba back to its original factory settings.

I never do a system recovery anyway because of all the pre-installed "bloatware" and useless stuff that gets reinstalled.

I do a hard drive format and then a clean reinstall with an actual Windows disc.

Well I purchased a Windows recovery disk online (just in case there was any help there) and came up against alot of brick walls. Do you know how to get a Windows installation disk? This pc did not come with any.

    Thanks!
