pci communication device

I had two open pci slots. I put a modem in one. The computer finds new hardware, pci communication device. I am assuming this is the modem, but then it will not find a driver. I picked one from the list and no way will it see the modem. Any suggestions?

Xp seldom finds dialup modems so you need to get the drivers yourself, do you know the make and model of the modem.

xp won't id old modems but does a pretty good job on newer stuff.

i have the same, inexpensive 56k modes in the xp machines and both were installed.

is/was this an older computer that was upgraded to xp as you don't mention the os?
