i have asus p4b motherboard and ordered a usb 2.0 hub and am wondering if it makes any difference which pci slot it is connected to and shound i remove the usb 1 card that is currently in my puter

2.0 hub needs the proper hardware. if the present usb card isn't 2.0 you won't get the faster speeds.

What sort of usb hub have you ordered? normally they come with a usb plug that you plug into a spare usb port on your computer.
Or is it a pci USB card ? it won't make any difference which slot you insert to so long as you have room, it will come with drivers but depending on OS you might not need them.
No need to remove the usb pci card if you don't want to you can still use it.

If you're buying a PCI card to supply USB 2.0 ports, it can be in any PCI slot. You can either remove the existing PCI USB card or leave it, your choice. The two cards should coexist without any issues.
