I am trying to solve an issue with the sound on my PC that I believe to be directly related to a known conflict with VIA chipsets and Creative PCI soundcards. I have posted the problem several times but have not yet corrected it. I have found that there is a PCI Latency patch designed specificly for this conflict. I need advice as to whether I should try this or not. There seems to me to be some controversy over the effectiveness of this patch as well as concern that it may damage some computers. My chipset is VIA VT8361 Apollo KLE133. Below is the link to the site with the Latency patch. It is the 5th one down on the page.

I am also posting a link below to my last thread dealing with the sound issue.

I would appreciate it if someone that has some knowledge of these things would help me as I am very much a layman. Most of what little I do know I have learned here.

It won't damage your hardware at all. You may however render your OS inoperable. Just back up everything or make a ghost image prior to applying the patch.
