We've run into a classic 'my friend knows lot's about computers and she said she could fix with but now it's really busted' situation.

Thge original problem was viruses. Simple solution: Allow the Antivirus program to do it's job. Her solution: Screw it all up and declare it fixed.

According to this 'friend' allowing the virus scanner to remove these files would cause windows to stop working so to head it off at the pass she reinstalled windows over half a dozen times and somehow really screwed it all up. She also turned off the system restire where we could have slavaged a good copy of hte registry because it's useless and just takes up space.

It's a 120GB drive with less that 12 GB used!

We don't know what this person did but everytime it boots up it reboots before it even reaches the logon screen. There are countless programs on here that have been configured to suit the customers needs and we would like to avoid wiping it out and reinstalling.

So far we have tried reinstalling over top with no success.
We cannot access any of the safe modes.
We used Partition magic to check for errors and could find none.

THe OS is Windows XP home

    Any ideas?
