WELL HERE WE GO AGAIN! I NEED YOUR HELP.........I HAVE A PHILIPS CDRW CDD4801/81. I AM ABLE TO USE IT AS A REGULAR DRIVE BUT WHEN I TRY TO USE IT TO BURN MY SYSTEMS SAYS IT IS NOT INSTALLED. WELL I WENT TO THE INTERNET AND DOWNLOADED THE DRIVER I NEEDED. AFTER INSTALLING THE DRIVER I WENT TO MY CONTROL PANEL TO ADD NEW HARDWARE. WELL- IT TELLS ME THAT THERE IS NO SUPPORTED DRIVE! IT WON'T EVEN PULL UP MY DRIVER INFO TO INSTALL. IT GIVES ME THREE OPTIONS-MITSUMI-SONY AND ANOTHER ONE. I GUESS MY QUESTION IS HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THIS WITH THIS DRIVE AND DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A FREEWARE GENERIC DRIVER THAT WILL WORK??????????????????

AS ALWAYS ----THANK YOU!

What burner software are you trying to use? Make sure that the application supports your burner or go to their site and see if they have a patch. If it is displayed in device manager with the correct device name, the drivers are already loaded correctly.

pssst......DON'T USE ALL CAPS IN YOUR POSTS!!

I’m not sure what kind of driver you downloaded. Burners don’t usually need drivers other than what Windows loads for them. There are firmware updates – Phillips would have those but their site is a hassle I won’t deal with anymore.

It is almost impossible that your devices aren’t listed in device manager but you can play CDs on them. Expand some headings and look more thoroughly. Sure you aren’t referring to My Computer or Windows Explorer? Right click My Computer>Properties>Device Manager.
