    Photoshop CS2 v9.0.2 : WinXP Pro w/1gB RAM

When using the Polygonal tool or Free Form pen the screen goes blank. Only the line/trace made by the tool is evident.

I am always tracing over an underlying layer with its opacity reduced. I may be at different zoom factors, makes no difference. I've tried different settings in Preferences regarding RAM, then restarting. Nothing works.

Hitting the ESC key brings the screen back immed. but of course it erases the trace lines.

Try updating the graphics card drivers.

Excellent idea but they are up to date.
    Good idea nonetheless.
    Thanks

Try changing the default cursor to Standard. (Edit/Preferences).
Delete the preferences file if this doesn't work.
