PHP script problem

    PHP newbie here, trying to learn PHP $=& mySQL

    Get the following error when trying to login
    Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Unknown MySQL server host ' localhost' (1) in /home/jtecom/public_html/php/dbc.php on line 31
    Couldn't make connection.

    Here is the code Line 31 is in red.
