Depends on the individual motherboard and if the motherboard manufacturer has release bios updates to add the correct code.
Check with your motherboard manufacturer for cpu's supported.

Not all, some of the later p2's used the secc2 package, the same as the p3.

The retention mechanism is different between the packages, but I am not sure if that is the only difference and the electrical inferface is the same.

Bottom line, need to know what the motherboard specs are
