Well that says it.......pinned item does not display in taskbar? Any ideas?
I have attached a screen shot showing the said "pinned" items with a view of the taskbar where they do not appear.
Oh and another thing, there is no longer a "pin to taskbar" option available to me by right clicking any folder.

BTW my initial attachment did not work, you can see it in the 3rd post in this thread.

The problem is that the explorer.exe has probably been corrupted.
    Try runnin sfc /scannow
Keep the windows 7 cd handy.

    Follow the below instructions Carefully:
    1. Download HiJackThis from the link in my signature
    2. Run a Scan.
    3. Save a Logfile(On your Desktop)
    4. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING BY YOURSELF.
(Fixing Anything Might cause Unwanted System Instability,BSOD's and Even Render your System Unusable)
5.Copy and Paste all the contents
    6. Paste them in the reply Window

    Thanks for your reply antech,

I attempted the sfc /scannow but nothing happened, as soon as I clicked the OK button the window just disappears into oblivion. So I'm goin with you HJT suggestion, I also see my initial attachment is not here so I'll attach it again + an image showing the sfc /scannow fail. Here's the log:

The functionality of the taskbar in Win7 has changed radically from Vista. It is a real PIA in my opinion and I doubt your problem is with any kind of corruption at all -- but the type of file that you are trying to pin.

Win7 attaches just about everything that is not a direct EXE to some other program such as Explorer, Internet Explorer, or another related program and the item does not appear as a separate taskbar item but as a part of a context menu group.

There are some workarounds for this, but most are not worth the hassle. To put a "standby" option on the taskbar and have it associate with a keyboard shortcut I had to make it a .bat file, then convert the .bat file to an exe. Only then could I get it to work on the taskbar.

Don't know whether this will be of any help, but worth checking out: http://windows7center.com/tutorials/how-to-pin-any-item-to-the-taskbar-in-windows-7/

So, following up on that I suspect that "Network" is now pinned to the Windows Explorer Jump list. Right click on the Windows Explorer in the Task Bar and I think you will see "Network" as one of the items. Maybe.

I'm rollin with Rog, I think I'll have to go down his road as much as a PIA as it is...............hold the phone I got outted from this site for saying that type of thing (PIA) or equivilant not so long ago. Anyway u guys have your own rules and agenda I just cant keep up with it I guess my bad.
Anyway, I looked at my own HJT log and it seemed prettty clean to me too. So as I said I'm gonna roll with Rog and see if that works.
Thanks for all your replies. I'll keep ya posted.

I had no luck with this either. My workaround involved creating shortcuts to those apps I wanted to use and saved them to my desktop. Then I opened a folder on the desktop, named it Program Shortcuts, dragged those shortcuts I had saved to my desktop into the folder and then dragged the folder to the Taskbar there is where it sits. I click on the Program Shortcuts folder and then single click on whatever apps shortcut I want. A few extra steps nit to works for me. Good luck to you.

I might have missed the point of the query, but I have never had the option to pin a folder to the taskbar? Like buf, I found it just as easy (easier!!) to creat my own shortcut folder on the desktop.

Were you able to do it before??
    As a suggstion,
    Consider upgrading to Avast 5.
Try running the sfc command from an elevated command prompt as suggested by terrynet in reply 4
