New HardDrive - replaced by Dell - 8300, WinXP hom. On this new harddrive, I do not have a program to UNZIP downloaded programs etc.
1. Do I need one and, if I do need one,
2. which is preferred;... WinZip or, PKZip?

I do not want to download AdWare until I know whether or not I need
an unzip program. Thank you, missfuffy

I recommend WinRAR... not only does it unzip, it unpackages RAR, TAR, tarball.gz, and many others. It is also free.

What operating system are you using? I believe that XP has some built in Windows file that acts and looks like WinZip.

I run XP and I still run WinZip. I am not too familiar with the other PkZip, but I believe that WinZip is more widespread in use and compatibility. If I am wrong, I am sure that someone will let us know. I can only vouch personally for WinZip.
