yes, the problem is that my system is slow, it seems like processes are running that are causing cpu usage to be at or near 100% even though there are no large apps running

the problem is not the same as when i've had ad/spy/malware in the past, no popups or crashing or weird things, just slowness in processor. i've scanned for spyware and viruses and none seem to be found, so i'm thinking it's one of the running processes in the 1st part of the HJT log that should not be running....or installed

I have 512 MB of RAM which should be enough for the programs I actually use, which is basically IE, email, Office, WinAmp, and Image viewing....

I did recently download and then uninstall Norton Antivirus which my ISP offers for free, but things have not cleared up since uninstalling, and to boot I am now vulnerable to viruses......

please help
thanks

Norton appears to be quite active in your log. It doesn't look uninstalled.

I finished uninstalling, the log is much smaller now but system is still super slow....I am keeping Norton Utilities which was fine long before I experienced any problems from NAV

I did ATF Cleaner, defrag, Symantec.com online Virus scan, and Spybot scan.....everything checks out clean but I am still slow.

Any other suggestions short of reformatting (which I am about to resort to)?
I tried putting a non-onboard video card in which helped a lot but also caused the computer to shut down randomly, likely to overheating (used video card, probably not 100% functional fan) so I had to remove it
