 I am having a big problem trying to install my updated version of symantec antivirus. The new PC i have had Symantec Client Security on it..... I downloaded the Norton removal tool but it wouldn't work because it detected version 9 or above? I was told to remove symantec via "Add/remove programs" first and then run the removal tool. I did this but when i tried to install my other version i got this error:
"Error 25002. There was an error loading the NavInst extension DLL."

I even tried following the manual uninstall procedure on the symantec website (which involves editing the registry) but all the keys etc that were to b removed weren't there anyway?????

Please help me if u can

Thanks in advance x :)

Thank u all for your advice....

I've tried all the steps that u have suggested but it's still not working.
I have been to symantec, downloaded the appropriate removal tool and tried to run it...... I got a message saying I had to first remove the program from add/remove programs (which i did) and then run the tool (which i did).

Nothing seems to be working! I have another pc to set up but i'm in the same position with that cause I cannot get a removal tool to work (and i don't want to use add/remove programs again cause then I'll start getting errors......

What should be simple is, in fact,:( a nightmare!

Also, please do both of the following:

1) Click here to download HJTsetup.exe.
  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

2) Open HijackThis and click on "Config" and then on the "Misc Tools" button. Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button. Click the "Save List" botton. Copy and paste that list here please.
