Hi.
I'm not sure this is the right forum to post this, if not let me know.

The Problem: I accidentally deleted some important data from a hard drive. I desperately want to rescue at least some of it. It is a folder containing a large number of digital photos.

This is what I've done:
1. accidentally deleted files
2. deleted the three partitions that were on the drive and made the drive into one partition
3. formatted the drive using Windows Disk Management tool in Administrative Tools (Windows XP). I used the "Quick Format" option rather than the "Full Format". The file system of the drive (also before formatting) is: NTFS
4. Currently there is new data on the drive. I'm using it as a backup drive now.

This all happened a few days ago. Only now I have realized the goof up.

Please, if there is any way you know of that I might best be able to salvage any of the lost data, I'd REALLY appreciate it.

Thanks! :(

Hello adifrank,

Your best hope (other than paying for a recovery service) is to use data recovery software to recover the images. Recuva is an example. There are free programs, there are programs you can pay for. I haven't used them much, but if you did a quick format and they haven't been overwritten with the new data, then it's likely that you can recover at least some of them. Best of luck.

Hi guys.
Thanks for the replies.
I eventually tried the recommended free program - Recuva. It managed to recover some of what was lost... I think around 40% which is better than nothing i guess.

Also, all the names of the files are messed up. So it's gonna take a lot of time refiling all the photos.

Thanks again!

Cheers.
