I've got a black screen with 3 files missing or corrupted. I just can't get out of that screen. I had some help earlier but I was getting nowhere and had been up all night so I gave up til now. Should I just put in the Quick Restore CD's in my Computer to start from scratch? Can I burn a copy the bootdisk website to a CD or Floppy from my husbands computer without messing his up? He's got Windows XP and I have Windows 98. Can someone Please Please help me?:(

Hi ejolly,

A moderator will probably combine the two threads. Hopefully without making things too confusing were you able to create a boot disk? Doing that on your husband's computer won't hurt anything, it'll extract the files to a clean floppy then you can delete the program or burn it to disk if you want.

If you have the recovery cds that would probably make things easier but depending on what you have you'll most likely lose whatever stored personal files there are as it'll reformat the hard drive before re-installing the Operating System.

There is no problem on losing personal stuff because there is nothing important to me on the computer. I just got it back from my daughter and she deleted all her important stuff. You don't know how thankful I am for your help. One more question, would I be able to download the CD with the black screen on there? Would I press enter or just put the CDs in there and let them do their own thing? Again Thank You

The way a recovery disk normally works is you place it in the disk drive, shut the computer down then turn it back on. It's a self-booting disk so it should start up on its own.
