I got bombed by viruses and finally got most of the infected files out. I'm still showing problems in Regedit.exe, winhlp32.exe, and posix.exe. I am also unable to remove many of the programs the viruses infected. Can someone tell me if there is a way to remove this or replace the files that are damaged. I've tried bitdefenders removal tool, spybot(which got infected and will not allow me to remove it), ad-aware, AVG, and a few other things I can't recall. I have my Windows 2000 install disc that came with my computer, but I dont have a serial number. The guy at the computer store I bought from said that it was with the other paper work and he didnt have a copy of it. So I'm afraid to reinstall because I think I need that. I'd appreciate any ideas on how to remedy these issues. Thank you.

first use this application to get your serial number.

it will show your number from the registry if it is a legal copy only and from what you have said it appears that yopu have lost the bit of paper with it on.

then if parite has badly infected the computer with many system files damaged I would personally format & reinstall windows to make sure it has all gone.

I have never sucsessfully cleaned a bad parite infection from any computer
