Hi, my PC seems to freeze randomly. This is equally likely to happen when I'm playing a game, watching a video, or when the PC is idle.

After the system freezes, I have to reset it manually. Often this involves me holding down the power button. Even after doing this, although the system appears to be "off", a light will still be lit (usually Num Lock) on the keyboard. After shutting off the main power switch (on the back), the keyboard light will turn off after a few seconds. Only then can I start a boot process.

This process can take several tries, as it will often freeze during various points during the boot. I find that my success after a freeze is increased by cold-booting, and then shutting down at the Windows login screen, before rebooting again!

Also, when shutting down/restarting the PC sometimes it does not properly shut down. Again, the PC has the appearance of being "off", but when turned on, it doesn't boot. I then need to go through the above rigmarole again.

I have included my HijackThis log below:

First thing i would try is a check disc on the Hard drive.....tell us what points it freezes during boot up

Try this click Start>>Run type cmd click Ok.

In the Command Prompt type chkdsk /r click Enter Note there is a space between chkdsk and /r

You will be asked if you want a check disk to run on next startup click Y and then press Enter

    Restart your PC

It will run in 5 sections please do not interrupt it let it finish.

'I find that my success after a freeze is increased by cold-booting'

Overheating - could be the problem - faulty Ram.
    Try..
Turn the computer off and disconnect it from the power
Take off the side of the case and touch the bare metal chassis to discharge static.
Remove Ram..Video cards from their slots

Plug in the RAM [one stick at a time].
    Also try different slots.
    Ensure it is seated correctly.
    Reseat Video card.

Check Hard drive and Motherboard connections [IDE]
Take them off and reseat them.

Inspect the case for dust etc.
Remove the dust..do not use a vacuum cleaner

Check that the processor fan rotate.
