hey everyone im new here and really need help. I run windows 98 and it is really slow i have had it for ages and i am starting to get really annoyed with it . . . like constantly freezing, coming up with errors (blue screen) when i turn it on. Sometimes it can take like 30mins to load up what with all the freezing and restarting. It can freeze sometimes for no reason. I have attached a hijackthis log (I think its what im supposed to do!) so please help me if you can! I just want a decent computer that dont freeze! lol! I would really appreciate . . . Cheers (y)

You've got way too many programs loading during startup and running in the background. Click the link below and read my article on MSCONFIG.

If you haven't done it already, download and install Ad-aware Personal Edition 6.0.181 and Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.3b6. Click the link below and read my article on spyware.

I'll let someone else more knowledgeable assist you with your HijackThis log.

MINIMIEGE ; got to agree with Flavallee . You do have an enormous amount of Backround and Start UP running . Reducing some of the non-essentials will help you, also running Flavallee's excellent idea of Adaware and Sbybot . After removal of some of your items, I suggest a Defrag, you more than likely will need to do this in "SAFE MODE" . To stop your items from running on Start Up , you can go to ..Programs..Accessories..System Tools.. System Config..Tools..Start Up. Simply uncheck anything you would like , you will be prompted to re-boot. After re-boot you can .. Ctrl,Alt,Delete..and stop everything else from running , except for Exployer and Systems. Then try your Defrag , if it fails to Defrag , you may want to try Defrag in Safe Mode also a Scan Disk may help. You should also delete your Cookies, Files and Clear History in "Internet Options".
BTW... after loading Adaware and Spybot , don't forget to check for Updates, prior to running these programs. Anything Adaware finds is ok to remove, remove anything checked in "Red"in Spybot. Although if you do remove them they can be retrieved . It is pretty self-explanitory. Good Luck !! And let us know how you make out !!

Once you've reduced the startup load and run Spybot and Ad-aware, run a new HijackThis log and post it here. You'll see a big difference between it and your current one.

If you ignore the advice to reduce the startup load and get rid of the spyware/malware/browser hijackers/etc., you're going to continue to have problems.

Many thanks for your reply, will run those today and post a new log later. Will doing this prevent the fatal exceptions i am getting at start up and constant freezing? And will it get rid of this annoying omega search im getting on my internet explorer? Thanks for your help!

A smaller startup load and the elimination of spyware/malware will reduce the risks of error messages and freezeups. However, each computer is different, so there's no 100% guarantee.
