Yesterday morning my computer started acting very strange. It was running extremly s l o w. I am using windows 98 - 512 ram and the performance says I have 85% free. I ran scandisk, defrag, ad-aware and spybot. I removed any program that even might produce spyware. I ran msconfig and checked to see what was running - ctrl+alt+delete. I also did a virus check with a updated AVG scan. When I clicked on a program prior to doing all this it would take forever to come up or would just stop responding. I was using incredimail, but have gotten rid of that. The major problem now seems to be my browser taking forever to come up (once it does - it runs great) and msn messenger (takes too long to sign in or stops responding) I called Sympatico and they tell me it is my operating system (based on all the problems in the beginning) I am at my wits end! Any and all suggestions would be appreciated GREATLY.

    Hi and welcome to TSG

I think it would be a good idea to download Hijack This and post a scan log for the experts to look it to see what's going on.

Please do this. Click here: http://www.sherrylynn.us/HijackThis.exe to download Hijack This. Save it to it’s own folder (not temporary files or the desktop).

Close all open windows and open HIJACK THIS. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to “Save Log”. Click on “Save Log” and save it to NotePad. Copy the entire log and paste it here.

DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET, most items that appear in the log are harmless or even needed. Wait for someone to analyze the scan and advise.
