Good evening,

Computers been acting up recently - slow at times - and one of my files has vanished, wondering if something nasty has got into the works.

Use adaware/ AVG/ Spyguard/ spyblaster/ AVG and have latest XP updates

Also wondering what svchost in applications does - looked on the web and know it's part of windows - but that it can also be a worm (i think)

here's the log,

Have tried to fix - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IMJPMIG9.1] C:\WINDOWS\system32\svdhost.exe

as per advice given on this board last week - but won't go - even when rebooting in safe mode,

Cheers in advance for any pointers,

Paxos :D

Print this and boot to safe mode
Fix these with HJT

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IMJPMIG9.1] C:\WINDOWS\system32\svdhost.exe

View Hidden Files
Open Windows Explorer. Go to Tools, Folder Options and click on the View tab.
Make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files".
Now click "Apply to all folders", Click "Apply" then "OK"

Delete these files

C:\WINDOWS\system32\svdhost.exe make SURE it is with the D and not svchost

START – RUN – key in %temp% - Edit – Select all – File – Delete
Empty the recycle bin
Boot and post a new log

"Delete these files

C:\WINDOWS\system32\svdhost.exe make SURE it is with the D and not svchost"

how do I do this?

Pocket KillBox http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. In the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste the following:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svdhost.exe
Now put a tick by Delete on reboot.
Click on the button with the red circle with the X. It will ask for confirmation. Click yes – click yes

Thanks for the guidance,

appears to have been removed. and does'nt appear in log,

however there is now a folder called !submit on the C drive that contains programs svdhost.exe and service.exe - not sure whether to delete these. . .

what exactly was svdhost.exe? any ideas? was it responsible for svchost appearing in the applications window? Malicious?

Thanks again,

Paxos

Thanks again,

When you click on My Computer, then Local C Drive, the "!Submit" folder is sitting along side the, Unzipped, program files etc.

Inside it is a run svdhost.exe file and a service.exe file (which has a link to a korean website)

never seen it there before..... Pretty weird.

Thanks once again for your help - must get some sleep.

Cheers
