Pop ups lock up my internet explorer when I have more than 1 or 2 windows open. I have pop up stopper(free version) but sometimes I must turn it off because some legitimate sites want to open more windows. I have cable modem and sometimes even get pop ups when my browser is not open. When lock up occurs I have to do a control-alt-delete and end task for the browser. It then closes all browser windows and wipes out the pop up stopper with it. Then I have to reboot to get pop up stopper to work again. Pop ups are the usual ebay, debt consolidation, casinos etc. I have 1.2G AMD with 128M ram, windows 98SE. I also have Zonealarm firewall(free version).

Thanks in advance for your help.

SpyBot might fix your problems. Do a search on TSG for it. Lots of info on how to use it.

Here it is:
http://spybot.eon.net.au/

I would definitely use DVOM's advice regarding Spybot, as well as the TSG search.
Let Spybot take care of everything it automatically checks (it will be in RED )

Better do an updated virus scan, too.

And I would also go through ZoneAlarm and check the settings carefully.

I have cable modem and sometimes even get pop ups when my browser is not open.
THAT should NOT be happening to you, stmeece, do Spybot, virus scan and also check, afterwards, Shields Up

HERE

and let us know how it goes.
